Show AN EXCITING TIME A Small Panic in the Parade iViiieli Finally Ends I NEW Yom 1 The scene of the dismissal dis-missal of the parade at Canal street to day was one of the wildest confusion and atone at-one time it looked as if a panic might ensue en-sue When the head of the parade arrived ar-rived the excitement began General But erflelds staff were mounted on spir I ted horses and many of them didnt now how to ride The animals I became restless and plunged around violently vio-lently The crush thecr6wd wassimplj I terrible The police had their hands full Considerable confusion also resulted from the failure of the aides to obey the orders of t ic chief marshal Bands in somej cases wandered off in the wrong part of the I Parade In passing the finish rich dine I ion saluted the chief marshal at Broadway and Canal streets There wero a number of accidents Tableaux Tab-leaux on three of five floats were caught in the wires and torn down Float No1 representing re-presenting an emigrant ship with deck and steerage and smokestack while turning into Canal street was wrecked by the rear wheel on the right side of the great truck being i wrencheS off by the car track The upper part of the x structure around the smokestack was occupied by half a dozen little girls in costumes while belOw there were several women the body of the car being filled with a few other women and a number of quaintly attired I tired men with false beards With I the loss of a wheel the frail structure toppled over and snapped and racked while the women and children slid and fell out Their screams were alarming and many policemen sprang forward to ssistthe injured Fortunately the child en only suffered from a bad fright and hey were earned away crying People landing by sprang from their places with the intention of lending a helping hand The panic was only of a moments duration rat the police soon restored order Be weon 1 and 5 oclock the parade was dismissed dis-missed and the centennial was at an end |
