| Show Hxoisrnn oDAY MORC WATER The matter of obtaining water for the city is ef quite as great importance y as the question of its distribution The canal has solved the probem of water for irrigation The gardens and a orchards need not suffer while the Jordan holds oat and the city retain If its right to the portion of the river 3 I already acquired But water for culinary and house purposes has for years been scarce and and annually the scarcity iucreases It is plain enough r that very soon the supply must be ti greatly increased or the use of water i from City Creek restricted to the it house exclusively That is the ony i stream flowing into the city which can be utilized for household uses and if the city is to increase in territory 11 and population City Creek will be ret re-t quired for house purposes It is high i time that the authorities were looking x about for an increased water supply The city cannot be restricted in its growth and population and numerous as the people may become they must all be supplied with water A system G t of reservoirs in City Creek Canyon I would answer because enough water i could be thus stored during the spring ana early summer months to supply a population three or four times that of Lti Salt Lake during the entire year but there is so much objection to the reservoir i res-ervoir plan that the propriety of itg F A adoption may well be questioned Other schemes may be mentioned as the r I piping of Utah Lake to the city and the purchase outright of one of the three or four streams entering the valley from the mountain range on the east e Any of these schemes can be made successful p suc-cessful with money and enterprise I one of which we can get and the other of which we should have While we are scheming to distribute water to every one in the city we should ba devising means for obtaining the fri water to distribute The City Council which will devise a successful plan and make a successful start will receive the plaudits of an appreciative and grateful grate-ful people |
