| Show Another Bitch NEW YORK December 15Another hitch occurred today in the arrangements arrange-ments for the fight for the championship champion-ship of the world between Jake Kilrain and John L Sullivan Today a gentleman gen-tleman who gave his name as Richard Rae and announced himself as a friend of Kilrain called on Colonel Calvin editor of the New York Clipper and expressed his willingness to cover the 5000 deposit that the Sullivan party had put up He handed Calvin a large document and afterwards 5000 Calvin stowed these away in his desfc and the stranger anxiously asked for a i I > L receipt for the money Calvin said they never gave receipts for such deposits de-posits that the fact of the deposit would be duly chronicled in the paper Farther persuasion proving unavailing unavail-ing Mr Roe said he could not leave the money unless HE WAS GIVEN A RECEIPT Calvin opened the drawer of his desk took out the envelopes and handed them back to Rae Calvin stated the i big document was largely a denial of Sullivans claim to the championship of the world and made a counterclaim for the title for Jake Kilrain It offered offer-ed or rather its maker offered to make a match with Sullivan for the title and a stake of 5000 a side This is 5000 less than Sullivans challenge intended aud so was not an acceptance of it The diamondstudded gold champion belt is now held by Kilrain and it also provided pro-vided that Kilrain as the holder of the championship should be permitted to name the TIME AND PLACE OF THE FIGHT Virtually it amounts to thS ignoring of the points of Sullivans challenge and the substitution of others more to KiT rains liking Heretofore in all championship cham-pionship matches the time and place of combat has either been settled by mutual agreement and especially the time of battle or has been decided by the tossing of a coin Before leaving the visitor said he was speaking by card when he announced that Kilrain meant business and if Sullivan and his friends are not dealing in another bluff they can make arrangements to meet Frank Stevenson of this city and James Keenan of Boston on behaU ot Kilrain to discuss and arrange any little differences of opinion tbat may exist between them as to the relative merits of Sullivan and the present champion |
