except that it will positively beheld be-held as advertised The work of plac the exhibits will be done today by the various supervisors and judging from the quantity of stuff already stowed in the the City Hall Every supervisor pf a department will be upon the grounds to day A telegram tele-gram received yesterday reports that Hon Arthur L Thomas a member of the board is under a physicians care at Pittsburg Pa This is much regretted by the ooard as Mr Ihomas Was alive active member The parts he was to play at the Fair have been filled as follows fol-lows To be supervisor of the fine art department Messrs G M Ottinger aud Director James H Moyle to be supervisor super-visor of fruits and flowers Director Smith Parker of Piute County Mr Hector W Haight of Farming ton a member of the board mace his appearance yesterday and whiled away tne day in work up to his eyes in and about the Exposition Building All who can make it possible should be present at the hour for opening on Wednesday viz 12 noon as it is then the opening exercises will occur including in-cluding the fine orchestra selection by Prof Weihes orchestra and the grand chorus by the Stephens Opera Company Com-pany beginning Come let us repair to the fair etc The opening exercises exer-cises of course will oa brief as standing stand-ing room only will be available Mr Empey was quite ill on Sunday from the effects of the previous weaRs worry and work but yesterday he was again at his post The order went forth yesterday to sell no more advertising space inside the building as every foot of space left there would be needed for exhibits The arrangements being made by the several wagon and machine companies of the city are elaborate and their displays dis-plays will be extremely handsome Two ladies have fixed up a restaurant consisting of a fortyfoot tent at the north side ot the buudiug Their grit should be rewarded by a plethoric purse Yesterday polite notes were sent to the various ladies and gentlemen I chosen by the board to act as awa rding committees inviting them to be present as early as possible after the opening All the awarding committees are to meet in the east room of the Exposition Building Thursday morning at 11 oclock A tremor of despondency shook thfi I frames of the dire ctors yesterday morning morn-ing as they viewea gathering clouds One of them who is not a profane man said II If it should rain what in clank would wo do Indications are now fair to middling |
