| Show KATE CASTLETON The Graceful Star in Herr flew Play Z f At Sea V There yas a fairsized audience at the Theatre last nightbut probably not assembled to such a one as would have greet Kate Castleton in any other week than this = to witness the return of the popular star in her new play At Sea She received a warm welcome from her friends about the rim of the orchestra and in the galleries the instant her arch countenance showed itself and from the applause which followed her I throughout the evening it was easy to see that her kick her glance her song and the length of her skirt had suffered nothing in the estimation of the public As an exponent of the particular sort of musical entertainment with which she has always allied herself she is of coursewithout a rival she sings as well and has as clever a selection of songs as eyer The Good Young Man who Died approaching in popularity For Goodness sake which was of course received re-ceived with the utmost demonstration of favor every rhymable topic was rung into the song and was redemanded until un-til the singer absolutely had to beg forbearance for-bearance We wish we could say as much forthe play and the company as for thestar but truth compels us to state that At Sea stands preeminently the most weary and senseless conglomeration of old jokes and old gags to say nothing of the ideas from Pop dragged bodily in that it has ever been the lot of Salt Lake to witnessand Salt Lake has had Fizz Bang Boom and Dan Morris Sullivan Sulli-van beyond Mr Harry Phillips only a glimpse of whom was seen under the stage name of Mr C W Young and some scenes of Mr Calburtsthere was no one in the support in the least resembling re-sembling that material with which Kate Castleton used to surround herself Mr Brydges is blled as the wonderful tenor if left to our ees we should call him a moderately voiced assembly hall singer who could be duplicated in every ward choir in the city Miss Ada Freeman the stars sister is a sweet faced little girl whose sister should put her anywhere except on the stage until her voice conies Mr Calburts imitations are very clever his best being that of i flbo lf bo I St io Stuart Robon The others were fair neither good nor bad There is still a fortune for Kate CaMleton if she had proper management a proper plav and a proper support but Wd may as well hint to her tha the star who plavs Park City and such towns can hardly retain puflirient magnitude to blaze in the larger cities Tonight it will be seen a double billj forms the attraction one act of Pop and the second and best act of At Sea I being the programme The matinee today to-day commences at 2 admi ion halt rate |
