| Show llemlrlcks in Washington I WASHINGTON February27The Vice I Presidentelect arrived in Washington 1 this afternoon over the Baltimore i Ohio railroad lIe was nietby an assemblage as-semblage of several hundred persons The Democratic ihembers ot Congress from Indiana except SenatorVoorhees who was detained at the Senate and Judge Holman who could not leave the House were present as members of the Indiana Democratic Association As soon as the VicePresidentelect was recognized many spectators on the platform removed their hats and applauded him as he pushed on toward the carriage down the length of the platform and through the waiting room to the street The applause grew nntil as he reached the pavement it i broke into enthusiastic cheering to which Mr Hendricks responded by raising his hat and bowing The committee com-mittee escorted him to the carriage but here the crowd surged about the vehicle and prevented it trom being driven on while a score or more shook hands with Mr Hendricks As the driver finally whipped up his horses and drove off to the 11Otel the crowd cheered enthusiastically enthusias-tically The VicePresidentelect wa accompanied by several gentlemen from Indiana and the ladies of his I family Hendricks held an informal reception in his rooms at the hotel this evening a large number of persons calling to pay their respects |
