| Show THE TUCSON Arizona Star says Polygamy should be punished as severely as tbe law will sanction but it might be well to allow at least some of the principles of evidence to control in the trial 01 some of the cases It is not so stated but we take this to be intended in-tended for Chief Justice Howard who conducts trials for polygamy as if the accused had no rights which courts should respect It is this disregard of the rights of polygamists in Utah and out of it that has so often defeated the courts and law officers If the anxiety to convict did not lead judges and prosecutors pro-secutors to deny rights and privileges which the laws guarantee to the accused ac-cused the lower tribunals i would not so often have to suffer the mortification of being reversed by their superiors |
