| Show TUESC NDAL of the Greely expedition has been revived agoin by the publication publica-tion of extracts from the lamented Kislingsburys diary These are ugly reflections upon the commander of the expedition It must be a bad heart which persists in bringing to the surface these matters which should remain buried with the unfortrnate dead In no way can good come from them and they are only brought out through malice or revenge The dead cannot make good the accusations and the living can only half defend against the assaults It is admitted by all that the expedition ex-pedition was badly conceived and worse managed that there was lamentable lack of harmony among the men and between the officers and that thefirst relief effort was so conducted as to be largely responsible for the disaster which overtook Greely and his little company These seem to be facts and the less said of them the better while it is cruel to say anythiI gofthe personal troubles jealousies and disputes |
