Show A Ministers Peril I PKOSPECT Hove Auust 22The Presidents party deferred attendance at church today until the afternoon The services of the day wero conducted by Rev Montgomery H Throop an Episcopalian clergyman of Chicago Mr Throop is camping on lower Saranac Lake and at the request of Rev Mr Dunton who supplies this pulpit pul-pit he consented to officiate today This journey is about twenty miles and has to be performed in a boat Mr Throop had an adventure on this journey which he will not soon forget With a boy for companion and guijlc he started for church at this point yesterday afternoon Instead of going ashore and carrying his boat around the rapids of Saranac River as guides do Mrs Throop thought he would push right through he got stuck fast before going very far and then an oar slipped overboard nUll was swept down stream further progress was impossible for traveling along shore under a rapidly setting sun wns not to be thought of in such a wildernes Knowing that guides were constantly passing and repasslng the sbipwreclcd couple curled upon a reck waiting for whatever would turn up and both fell fast asleep A guide who was making his way up the river with a boat load of baggage reached the rock about 10 oclock at night and his keen cyt detected de-tected something unusual in its nppear ace Thinking a bear was perched upon it and proposed to divert his passage pas-sage he shouted vigorously As there shouted the was no mov went when he third time he reached forward among the baggage and felt for Winchester Just then the clergyman awoke and startled the guide with a sharp hello there An understanding was reached the baggage in the boat was readjusted and the two waifs were taken aboard |
