Show DOESNT WANTiTO BE BLED Some Interesting Facts for Cattle and Horse Men I SALT LAKE Crrr Nov 6 18So3 To the Editor of Tnr UXEALD i am asked by many of the stockmen I what we are going to do about the National Na-tional Stock Association I will state facts giving the situation St Louis held a convention for cattlemen and horsemen in 1831 first and one last year Many stockmen mostly of the west and southwest were present Much good feeling prevailed a good understanding was had and much kind treatment from the magnanimous people of that grand old city but nothing was done to help the stockmen of the west There was a convention of cattlemen also held about the same time in Chicago Chi-cago This excluded horsemen and I think was mostly meant for fat stock showing When we met last year at St Louis we found ourselves deeply in debt contracted con-tracted by our secretaries Many thought the best way out was to consolidate con-solidate with the Chicago association Accordingly a committee from each association was appointed These met at Springfield III half way between the two contesting great citie the stockmen being the mere tools They drew up a contract by which we were to each to meet en the 10th of Nov 1S35 in Chicago and dissolve both and reorganize a National Association Asso-ciation All bat wanted to join must pay twentyfive dollars fees all the old membership being lost As the stockmen I stock-men in Utah have paid out their money I in good faith and we have as many association as any State or Territory and we have nothing to show for the home I do not want to oe the means of stockmen being further bled to please eastern men but have concluded to wait until there is something done Hence we have not made a call of the executive committee who alone have the power to say what shall be done in tbe absence of the stockmen themselves There will be a call of executive committee soon to consider what we want to do in the way of attending the convention at Denver in January 1S37 This is the convention that met la teAr t-eAr and was nmed the Intermountain Cattle and Hone Growers Association This composes ColoradoWyoming and alt that country west to the Pacific 0 can Association has for its object a better detective system by which thieves can becaptured better system of getting beef to market shutting out the middlemen who now rob the stockmen I stock-men In fact the range interest will be looked after nnd this interest has not been even hinted at by either of the big city conventions Hoping that each stockman will join the county or the territorial association associa-tion and help to accomplish that which will be good for all the people of this territory I remain YoursH H J FACST |
