Show A NEW DEPARTURE From our dispatches it will be seen that the attorneys for the boodleloving exAlderman McCabe are taking not exactly what is commonly known as the insane dodge but something very nearly like it They present an affidavit made by Dr Hammond late Surgeon General of the army and a man recognized recog-nized as a good judge of mental disorders disor-ders stating that Mr McCabes mental condition approaches imbecility Other affidavits of a like character accompany that of Dr Hammond The judge announces an-nounces that he will impanel a jury to quire into the mental condition of McCabe This may possibly afford ford a means ot escape from the penitentiary for tne boodle ex alderman of New York as charitably inclined jurymen may conclude that an alderman who would take boodle must be idiotic or altogether insane But whichever way the decision may goit will be hard on the alderman since he is either to be condemned Ru Pas uni = hed P-as a rogue or excused as an imbecile And to escape either dilemma it would be better to forego the advantages secured se-cured by the boodle First lesson to alderman Withhold thy hand from the taking of bribes |
