Show That Tribune VGritieism We sUppose that now it has had a chance to note how general is the satisfaction satis-faction in regard to the Mikado the Tribune is prepared to admit that it made the ass of itself that it usually does when attempting to handle anything any-thing theatrical One of the richest things lately seen in print is the grave asseveration ot the sheet that it criti cises all shows impartially and that it has not yet fallen into the habit of praising good bad and indifferent performances per-formances indiscriminately It is so notorious a fact that a Tribune notice is never to be relied on and that it has until recently so gushed over all grades of performances from Dan Morris Sullivan upwardsthat any refutation of their statement is needless As evidencing evi-dencing the degree of independence reliability enterprise and we may say the honesty of Tribune critics it may be as well to state that they are in the habit of allowing managers and agents of shows to write the criticism of their own performances This was done in the case of Haverlys minstrels and we can name other performances as well when they have obtained like impartial impar-tial accounts and yet they have the sublime gall to talk of our criticisms |
