Show The Eastern Troubles CONSTANTINOPLE November 4 Turkey has not named her delegate to the conference of the powers on the Roumelian questions because the ambassadors of the powers disagree on the subject of restoring the statu gllo ante and the measures to be adopted to restore it The Porte wishes the conference con-ference to open under the auspices of a union of the powers on the above matters Said Pasha new Turkish foreign I minister has induced M De Nelidoff Russian Ambassador to be less determined I deter-mined to depose Prince Alexander of Bulgaria The Porte is urging Sir William White who continues to act as British Ambassador to ask England for fresh instructions respecting its line of action at the proposed Balkan Conference so as to render a compromise on the Bul garianRoumelian question possible The attitude of England causes much uneasiness to the Porte who believes that Lord Salisbury English Prime Minister does not want to weaken any of the Balkan States As constituted they form a barrier against Russian schemes At the last meeting of the Ambassadors Sir William White energetically ener-getically opposed the proposition to restore re-store the state quo ante in the Balkans The Powers are certain to disagree upon this subject Italy has tried and failed to restore accord among the Powers on the matter The Porte fears that Austria will abandon her present policy which would greatly increase the difficulties of the situation |
