Show nUlL NG IX OGDEX How Some of thcEnterprisingPeo pie are Building Up the City At the opening the season there was no one who was bold enough to say that anything like a building boom would take place in this city during the present summer Those who were best informed expressed careful opinions on the subject As the season advances however the anticipations of the most sanguine are being outdone There are now in course of construction three commodious brick business structures with four or five more that are under contemplation and will in all proba bility be commenced within the next thirty days The largest building that is now being erected is the handsome three I story block of Messrs A Kahn d Bro situated just north of Z C M I This b ding will be 53x100 feet and will be divided into two parts one being occupied occu-pied by Kuhn Bro hers the other by Messrs Itube S Penglase Work has been progressing for about sixty days and furnishes work for a number of idle menThe men-The other two buildings are being erected on the ground where the recent fire occurred on Main Street One of these buildings is being erected bv C L Peebles tt Co druggists and is 21 x 00 feet two stories J he foundation is now complete and work has begun on the walls The building is expected to be ready for use by the second week in July The other the property Mr Buch miller and is of about the same dimensions dimen-sions as the Peebles building This will be completed about August 15th The buildings that are to be commenced com-menced shortly will replace cheap wooden structures on Main Street and will materially improve the appearance of the city besides adding to the present pre-sent value of property In addition to the business places that are in course of erection and under contemplation considerable improvements improve-ments have been made in private residences resi-dences besides several new dwellings will be built Rents have materially ranced since the close of winter and the general outlook out-look may be considered much bright T II than at any time during the past year I The railroad companies keep promising promis-ing to erect a Union depothere and we believe that with the proper urging from the baaiaesa men and leading citizens of Ogden they could be induced to fulfil their agreements Ogden certainly has natural advantages advan-tages that warrant the investment of capital and promise remunerative returns re-turns on the outlay and with a little more enterprise and capital she will rapidly rise to an important commercial II commer-cial city |
