Show R 1 ti THE P13OVOOSTMAi8TER i i t r I 9 The Provo people v have field a mass u meeting and formulated a protest p against the appointment of ifr J G I II Kenney to bepostmaster at that city alleging Jnonresidence and unfitness z for the position U A message was telegraphed tele-graphed to the PostmasterGeneral asking I ask-ing hiux withhold final action until the r r resolutions and proest could reach him by mail The people of Provo without m I i i f regard to politics religion or previous i t condition are attaching their names to I I j i the protest against the appointment and requesting the retention of the pre el t f 11 i f sent incumbent Mrs ifcCauslip Mr q I f I Kenneys appointnicnfeis certainly another oto an-other fraie ske addod to the inc < mv < eni t r entlv long list perpetrated by this administration i ad-ministration In their protest our I Provo friends speak generally of the gentlemans unfi ness for the office failing to goY into detail and pot getting out < specificlreasons for theirs allegations 11 they misfit have done Kenney is in no sense a resident of Provo his home for the past eight or ten years being in Colorado At one time he resided in Provo where he succeeded in making himself one of the Ampst offensive and objectionable persons in town If any official should enjoy the confidence of the community is the postmaster and iris safe to say that nine out of ten per w ons in Provo have little respect and less c confidence in Mr Kenney Whether or not they are justified in their lack of respect for and want of trust in the gentleman matters little the fact that the feeling exists should be sufficient to keep him out of the office However grievous it is to make the admission we fear the Provo peoples protest will carry small weight with an I Administration which shows LSO little regard for the rights of the people of the Territory So far there has not been a solitary appointment made on the request or recommendation of any j I bonaJide resident Utahwhose people I haye been consulted in no instance as to their preferences in the matter of Federal appointees The fact that nonresidents non-residents are appointed to < petty post mastersHips is an indication that the I people are not to be taken into consideration consid-eration by the Administration in filling the local offices hence we apprehend that the Provo protest wilt meet only with rebuff I |
