Show FROM MANY CLIMES I I An Interesting Experience of Hudsons Bay Observers POLITICS IN THE GREEN ISLE De iesseps Catholic Schools Tho Trouble With the New York Tribune Tri-bune Other News Notes I An Interesting Experience 1 HVLIFAX October 3LR L Stupart pthe Hudsons Bay observer who with three assistants abandoned his station at the Stuparts Bay the day before the steamer Alert reached there arrived in Halifax this evening on the steamer Miranda from St Johns N F Stupart gives an interesting account of the experience he and his three companions compan-ions met with after leaving their post The men with him were J W McDaniel and J W Chaplain of St Marys N S and Harry Bennett of St Johns N F Each observing station sta-tion in the strait was furnished with eighteen months provisions for the three men and Stupart received nothing noth-ing additional for the fourth man in his party The consequence was that by August 20th they found themselves with a very small quantity of supplies left and the country around affording no means of support for a white man they were compelled to maKe a move for other quarters The Esqumaux were suffering for food because of a failure of the fisheries and he gave them what he could spare On August 21 all four lett their post in an open sailboat sail-boat taking with them twentyfive pounds of meat and a barrelandahalf of biscuit and started for Ungava Bay After a voyage of thirteen days made under the most dangerous and uncomfortable circumstances the little party reached their destination At Fort Clome they boarded the steamer Labrador for Rigolet which they reached September 28 Thence they went on a days journey in a sailboat sail-boat to the Indian harbor October 23d the steamer Hercules iook them to Grady and they came thence to Harbor Har-bor Grace N FM on the steamer Vanguard Van-guard arriving last Tuesday |
