Show Tke Trouble with the Tribune NEW YORK October 31The officers of Typographical Union No G signed agreement with the New York Tri tune withdrawing all their charges of bad faith and broken cQntracts suspending sus-pending their boycotting and pledging themselves to advise all labor organizations organiza-tions and request from them a similar action Thin is the result of an adjustment ad-justment which these officers have reicbed on the basis first agreed upon with the Tribune during the height of the Blaine camp cam-p ign in September but after wards rejected by the Typographical union themselves The Tribune re taiins out of the union as it has been I for nine years past a works under I its own rules and regulations with its old fore mhnand makes absolutely no change among its employes most of whom have been nonunion men for many years and intend te remain so It agrees to continue paying its present wages to its weekly hands which are in nearly all cases above the union un-ion jcale and to advance its rate for piece composition to 46 cent per thousand This is the price namea on memorandum to which it agreed last year but which the Union afterwards after-wards rejected In a speech to his I men this afternoon announcing the agreement Whitelaw Reid thanked hem for their conduct to their employer em-ployer during a long struggle and said that in consideration of their splendid loyalty he should do more than the Union asked or had agreed to do a year ago JIe therefore there-fore advanced the price for piece composition above the Union scale to 47 cents per thousand Over onehalf of the Tribunes printers are Democrats politics not being allowed to interfere with its relations to its employees Its It-s said the Typographical Union apprehends appre-hends general movement among other newspapers for a reduction to 40 cents per thousand and this was their reason for accepting the terms they rejected a year ago and being willing now to adjust ad-just their difficulties with the Tribune on the basis of its remaining a nonunion non-union office |
