Show Tho Telephone Trouble 1 WASHINGTON November 16The hearing in the Telephone case was resumed re-sumed this morning At the request of Mr Young the secretary decided io allow each side an extension of time in which to close their arguments Humphreys representing the Globe Company read an affidavit by Pres dent Goodwin of that company in answer to the affidavit of Mr Tomp kins touching the alleged negotiations by the Bell Company for the purchase of Meuccis claim Included in the affidavit were copies of the correspondence occurring between E B Welsh of Boston and Meuccis representatives rep-resentatives in 1883 Mr Humphreys stated that Welsh was connected with the Bell Company Mr Dickerson denied de-nied the statement and added that Welsh was one of the agents of the other side Mr Goodwin deposes in his affidavits that the Bell representatives metioned the sum of 1000000 The secretarylinqtared if the gentlemen had any evidence that Welsh represented the Bell Company and Mr Humphreys said that they would produce evidence Professor Gray then read an answer to the affidavit of Mr Baldwin read on Saturday He said it seemed proper for him Professor Gray to explain his application ap-plication in regard to his caveat How in correspondence submitted bv Baldwin he declared that he had had the fullest confidence in his counsels integrity and ability andhad acted entirely en-tirely upon his advice in refraining from contesting Bells application It appeared now that he was mistaken He declares that Bells invention as set out in his specifications was inoperative and that no one in the condition electrical science at that day coud have made the instrument speak Counsel were given ten days in which to file briefs and the hearing adjourned |
