Show THE BEAVER COUNTY FAIR An Excellent Showing of the Re Utah f i I J J i i a 1 r V I 1 R 3 j 1 Saturciayjast Thomas Schofieldf Jas a r C e TTarf r George Hales T H Sudwick and William Robinson each received the usual sentence by Judge Boreman for the offense of unlawful cohabitation the defendants declining to make any promises and shortly after4he imposi lion of the judgment were en route to I the Pen R Maeser the editor of the Utonianwas also called up for sentence on a case of libeling same important personages known hereabout as deputy 1 United States marshals The edftqr4q save the annoyance of being convicted by a packed jury discreetly plead guilty with the understanding that by so doing do-ing he would be exemptfrom sentence of imprisonment The judgment of the court was that be pay a fine of IOQ and coststhe latter amounting to the rather exorbitant sum of 265 This closed the most important business before the court and the latter tribunal has filled in this week thus far with some rather unimportant routine business The present week is somewhat of r A GALA SEASON with our citizens fromthe fact that our annual county fair is now in full blast in this city and during the latter part of the week the quarterly conference i of this stake is also tp be held As regards the county fair I would say that it has proven to be an unqualified success The exhibits were many and varied The Beaver Woolen Mills exhibit was better and larger than ever before comprising com-prising a nice assortment of unadulterated unadul-terated woolen blankets in half = adozen different colors and of exquisite finish suiting and dress goods in all the latest patterns and colors beside a fine assortment as-sortment of flannels and yarns As would be naturally expected the ladies took up a good portion of room at the fair in a very fine showing of industrial as well as fine art products of their skillful fingers Crazy patchwork was one of the prominent point one lady Mrs Presley Denny exhibiting a silk crazy patchwork quilt of the estimated value of 100 and it was really a gem Then there were wax flowers and fruit woolen flowers and fruit crayon sk tches watercolor painting and almost an endless amount and variety of fancy needle work all beautiful and creditable alike to the fair artizans who created them A notioeaole fea lire of the fair was a very intelligently arranged and extensive cabinet of mineralogical specimens from several of the most prominent of the mines of this section The specimens of ore comprised gold silver lead copper cop-per manganese tin and iron and were arranged and shown along with their several assays by our local assayer Mr C C Woodhouse It is almost needless need-less to say that the exhibit of fruits vegetables and cereals was really exel lent The list was that of almost the entire vegetable kingdomthat is as far us the season would permitand floriculture was by no means forgotten there being a magnificent display of flowers both in pot and cut k On the exterior and in suitablyar ranged sheds and enclosures were shown some fine specimens of the equine and bovine race Of the horses were seen some noble samples of the Norman Percheron stock also of the Hamble tonian Morgan Copperbottom and Whipstock breeds Of cattle there was a fair showing comprising fine specimens of shorthorn urhamJersey Holstein and native stock both full blooded and graded The exhibit ot swine seemed to be entirely tirely confined to specimens of the Berkshire breed of which however there were some really fine samples Sheep had also a place although oc cupi d by but few in number The only exhibition in this line was Andrew Olsen ot Pine Creek but showed some fine specimens of fullblood merinos southdown merinos and Cotswold merino grades all fine sheep IN CONNECTION WITH THE FAIR but at its conclusion there is to be some horse racing on the new driving track owned by the Agricultural Association Just outside of town but what the entries are or the class and number of prizes I have not yet been able to learn but am told that the latter will be of sufficient value to make it an interesting interest-ing time Respectfully S BEAVER September 30 1886 |
