Show AN liMY ACCIDENT I a By Which George Newbold is Killed TRIAL OR THE AJfAUGHISTS Corruption In Great Kritaln T l MayflowerVFlns Tke Greaser On Their Ears tAn J An AlmjJccldentj 1 t ALUT Wvo4 August 7 Special to THE Hrrjiu A fearful accident occurred here at No 3 mine this morning about 815 oclock by which George Newbold lost his life It seems he was taken from the shoveling stack to help move some coal cars the boss telling him to start them up with n crow bar lie tbe boss going to the brake After these had started down the grade be went and moved two others when they were I going the wefehman called his attention atten-tion to the fact that there was no one at the brake The old man ran and climbed upon them and commenced putting on the brakes to the best of his ability no doubt but the cars gained hadway and were passing the boss about six car lengths from where they I sruc he sara he cried to him toljnmp off but whether he heard or not no one I knows They ha 1 run about two hundred hun-dred yards when they struck tbof that I stood ahead of them be coal flying knocking him from hisposifion in between i be-tween the two the first truck of the I last car passing over his right arm left hand and neck almost severinghis bead from his body This sad affair was witnessed by one of his own family His son who war working work-ing near by ran towards him and cried to him io jump but he either did no hear or was unable ty do so He was a man of good repute 63 years of age a native of England He leaves a loving wife and seven children chil-dren to mourn his sad fate A coroners inquest was held with jurymen and the verdict was in their opinion from the evicence taken that he G Newbold came tohls death while not in his regular line of duty but by running down two loaded cars which had become unmanagable behaving be-having received orders from Thomas Cnrran boss > |
