Show THE NEWS is flashed arCH the continent con-tinent of the sudden death in New York on Monday of James H Vin son the dispatch has it John The announcement is one that the acquaintances ac-quaintances of Jim have been expecting ex-pecting for years past aa he wag a physical wreck for two decades at least and yet at his death he was a young man having sojourned on this earth some years less than half a century Butthe news of his going over to the silent majority will excite a pang of grief in many hearts scattered t scat-tered over this broad land Jim Vinson was familiar to stages and stage peoph and to the newspaper fellers from one end of the republic to the other and was appreciated and liked by the masses An actor of no mean pretensions he had brought many a tear to the eye and many a smile to the lips of those who witnessed wit-nessed his performances on toe mimic stage Here in Salt Lake where he was both player and stage manager the old man never failed to please and satisfy It was a hard heart indeed that Vinson could not touch with his Old Guard One of the most pleasing episodes in his toilsome and eventful life occurred here a couple of years ago on the occasion of his last visit to this city his home as he affectionately affec-tionately called Salt Lake He was stage manager with the Pieroy Combination Com-bination and appeared on the stage in a minor part but his familiar face and voice were no sooner seen and heard by the audience than the house fairly shook with welcoming clapping of hands and deafening applause In speaking of the circumstance after the performance tears of gratitude filled his eyes and his voice trembled with deep emotion at the manifestation manifesta-tion of afleotion for him Under some circumstances Jim Vinson would have shone as a bright star in the theatrical firmament i as it was he achieved an honorable name and fame in the profession and now that he has gone to his long home he will live here In the memory of the many I as a good actor a thoroughly theatrical i theat-rical character and as one of the best of good fellows socially Peace to the ashes of Uncle Jim Vinson |
