Show BOBBING < Mr A Greenwsll Robbed of ever 1000 in Cash The most daring robbery ever perpetrated per-petrated in this city yesterday at the house of Mr Ambrose Green well on Fourth Street Being Thanksgiving Day the banking houses in Ogden were closed Mr Greenwell had a sum of money in his house which he could not deposit de-posit He had it in a cash box which was placed in a bureau Mr and Mrs Greenwell were invited to dine with a friend and left home between one and two oclock pm They returned home in the evening and on opening the drawer in which the money had been placed found the cash had been abstracted also the deeds of nearly all of Mr Greenwells real estate Suspicion fell upon a young man named Myron Seeckel and it appears that Seeckel was a witness in the murder ease of Jack Emerson Emer-son and was sent to Ogden by Marshall Shaughnessy to act as bailiff of the court He brought letters of recommendationone of which was from Sheriff Turner of Provo Deputy Marshal Vander cook interested himself with Mr Greenwell to procure for the bailiff quiet board and lodgings and Mr Greenwell took him in as a boarder and treated him with the utmost kindness As to his connection with the robbery the following has been elicited After Mr and Mrs Greenwell home yesterday afternoon af-ternoon Seeckel went to the house and told the young woman who was left in charge that he wished to wash and change his clothing previous pre-vious to going out on business He locked himself up in the front room and remained for more than half an hour and did not return to the rear room but left the house surreptitiously surrepti-tiously by a side door leading to the stairway down which he descended to the street When Mr Greenwell looked for the money he found that the lock of the drawer had been picked by means of a skeleton key the property being taken out and the drawer again locked a piece of veneer was broken from around the key hole and was found on the floor Suspicion as above stated falling upon Seeckel he was arrested in the ball room by special policeman Critchlow And delivered by him to Ma shal Reyes who placed him in charge of Deputy U S Marshal Vandercook On being searched no money or papers of value were found on him Ogden Herald NoV 25 pp |
