little essay on Old Peter showing the skilful touch and the simplicity which characterizes Miss Jewetts New England sketches The Atlantic promises for next year serial stories by Thomas Hardy author of Far from the Madding Crowd The Returm of the Native perhaps the first of living novelists by Mr Bishopthe author of Detmold Mr Lathrop author of II A Study of Haw thornE and by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps The other departments of the Atlanticessays short stories poetry and articles on timely topics will be of the high otder as heretofore hereto-fore and though the magazine does not offer its readers the special attrac tion of illustrations its literary con tent are so excellent and eo varied that it commends itself to the hearty favor of all who like and can appreciate appreci-ate the respectively The Herald of Praise is the name of the Church music book while Tie Ideal is the title of the new book for the singing class The rnly difference between them is that TJie Ideal is
