Show New Postoflice The present building used as the postoffice is one that was never very attractive it being on a cold low side of the street when ice was on the ground and when everything else was bright b ing so dark ami dingy Of late however it has bees almost repulsive on account of being Iso I-so dark and the accumulation of dirt for years has made it a place that but very few persons cared to stay in longer than they were absolutely compelled to The matter of a change was mooted a few months ago and charitably disposed persons were asked to please help Uncle Sam provide better quarters where the letters and packages which were paid for to be carried and delivered couldbe handed out to those whose business compelled them to use the mails The culmination of the matter mat-ter is that government has accepted a bid f rem Mr Nicholas Groesbeck for the occupancy of a portion of the building erected by nim on the west bide of the Groesbeck block The space is afforded by taking out the partition of what was designed to be two stores and making them into one thus giving a space of about 40x00 feet The place certainly looks cleau and sweet which will be a great change from the present room but it is too small for the business done in this i city and though it will afford more light than could be obtained before we question if the emplpyees will have as much as they should do tom to-m ke their work agreeable and make them feel pleasant to the throng which congregates there Mr Lynch will soon commence to superintend its fitting up and arrange ar-range it for tho convenience of the public |
