Show Snow JD Frisco San Francisco 31A heavv snow storm set in here about noon and continued with great violence over four hours Snow fell to the depth of five or more inches Such a fall of snow was unknown within the city for the past thirty years and old pioneers of the place state that they never saw a storm of equal violence and duration A number of sleighs the first ever seen in the city were out on the streets San Francisco 1 Dispatches from many points inthestate indicate indi-cate that the fall of snow was quite general the depth ranging from one inch to eight Such a fall was scarcely ever Known in the history of California During the past twentyfour hours a severe rainstorm rain-storm prevailed here accompanied by a heavy gale Shipping sustained sus-tained considerable damage especially especi-ally in case of wooden vessels Many vessels bumped heavily against the dock damaging the sides and sterns At the sea wall where shipping received the full force of the gale much damage was done Piles were snapped off Vessels ves-sels jammed and bulk heads crushed A number of vessels out in the bay dragged anchor but fortunately for-tunately escaped without serious damage British iron vessels had i taken the precaution and suffered comparative little damage Several Sev-eral coasters were roughly handled and portions of the rigging carried away A large barge and one small craft sank during the gale |
