Show = THE CANAL Judge Snows Final Contribn ton to the Canal SALT LAKE Cm April 118SO 1 Editors Heal I now plainly inform you that I intend to go to the polls and vote Yes But this is not because I think the subject of the water question has been or ia exhausted In judgment it is not Some light has been gained Some by publications publica-tions and somo by private talk on the streets and other places I is within my personal knowledge that the Folly family which you know includes in-cludes all the offahcots by whatever name they may be called have had all tbey could do and all they ought to be asked to do from the time of arrival in this territory till the ti present pres-ent time It they have left undone things they ought to have done and done things they ought not to have done it is because the Foresight family fam-ily did not eee the end from tbo beginning be-ginning and the Wiseman family made an injudicious choice of eub jecle Should I complain unceasingly should I find myself in the ranks of the Hindsights which I concede are men good in their place much as I dread them I the Utah Lake the natural reservoir of water can be dammed up so as to secure a larger supply sup-ply in time of need to be used either by tbe inhabitants ol Sale Lake City or the inhabitants of Salt Lake County or by both the Folly 1 family wnen they must will certainly cer-tainly do it no mistake about that or i i can be tapped so as to draw c ofJ < ine foot of the water instead of raising it and thus getting t eupply the Folly familr will An thnf fho Folly family will i l not rn let millions of dollars in that lake lie idle and antler their ducks and ducklings to go to roost hungry Mr Editor you may depend on that Sir you may depend de-pend on that This is something that the knowledge teat when it gives down the milk will tell us A3 econ as the ducks and cocks of the Folly 1 family get i they will quack and crow Now there are some mem bers of the Folly family who believe the knowledge bag of Utah h already sufficiently filled to tel them and all that is wanted is a little bran and slops to feed the cow while the calf is at the teat to make the milk flow i My cows wont give down milk unless I water and feed them Give the cow the bran and slops and tho milk will flow into the bag until the cow will low for the calf I am told sufficient surveys have been made to test this but I have not seen them nor should I know anything any-thing about their sufficiency if I had I more surveys are needed and the money is forthcoming they can be and I doubt net will be made I am willing to trust the City Council with this as with other matters I do not think money is wasted in gaining Knowledge ana judging from tbe I good condition of Sister Prudence I do not think the Prudence family think eo I is within my personal knowledge knowl-edge that soon after I came to this territory a talk wag held in the Folly family in relation to their future needs 09 to water At that time it was talked of the feasibility of erecting dams and reservoirs in City Creek Red Butte Creek Emigration Creek and in Canon Creek and thus get a supply in time of need but then as now there was enough to be done Thus there was water enough for the present use So they like all others only taked about it The knowledge now in the community if rolled into action is quite sufficient in my judgment judg-ment to settle that matter But that cannot be done without money I have no more knowledge about this tban about the Utah Lake matter mater Men who give euch subjects their attention at-tention know or may know more put than together all the rest of the Folly family In one of my letters as I have before Raid in counting the coat I set it forth aa I thought in its worst possible light so that i i was a failure fail-ure as I did not know but it might be the worst would be known I do not balieve that the interest on the bonds will be 8 per cent per annum nor do I think it will be as low as 4 per cent I the money could be obtained at 4 per cent per annum it would then be only half as bad as I thus portrayed I think it will be between 4 and 8 per cent Again I took the highest amount 250000 I doubted and still doubt about its coating tbat amount I in this I am correct it makes it still better I assumed the city revenue to be 150000 per annum I is i not my judgment that it reaches that amount but tbis I do not know It cannot be less than 100000 per annum 5120000 or 130000 per annum is probably not far from the truth These influence the matter incidentally incident-ally Seeing the snowfall in the mountains last winter I thought it would influence the vote yet my judgment was that it ought net None of us know how soon the snows may be lea I know too that tome injustice would be done i tho canal be built I did not beliere nor do I now believe that the injustice would be greater tban in any other matter of a public nature and of M much importance At times people get to sleep do not seem to see or care how things move about them Yet when awake and their minds called into action there is sufficient energy to cause such a measure to move oil harmoniously In conclusion Mr Editor I think ignorance i may be and sometimes is a bliss I have expoed my ignorance in this matter and in EO doing I have perceived the effects of knowledge being distilled about me I am lone till I vote Yours truly Z SNow PSAfter the election I intend to spend a portion of my time in trying to solve insolvable puzzles zS |
