Show The Concert The conceit last evening the concluding con-cluding one of the series given by the Careless Orchestra was a triumph One of the largest audiences ever present pre-sent at an entertainment of this character asembled and thoroughly enjoyed the performance The orchestral selections throughout were of unusual merit while a request rai made during the performance for the Turkish Reviewwhich was given as an encore and then had to be repeated re-peated a second time The piano duet by the Misses Anderson the cornet solo by Mark Croxal the songs by Misses Stenhouse and White the violin solo by Mr Weihe all had t be repeated Mr Coxall gave the beautiful little piece of Robin Adair for an encore with an ecbo which was also encored Miss Ida Stenbouse who made her debut last evening sang Shuberts Serenade in truly artistic style and responded re-sponded to the encore with a ballad She possesses a sweet and cultivated voice which with her prepossessing pre-possessing manner despite the timidity timid-ity she evinced at once made her a favorite Miss White is an old favorite favo-rite and did well but we must say her encore The Bridge by Longfellow Long-fellow was the better selection ash as-h r voice tells best on the lower notes and in selections of that character she surpasses The selection from the Messiah symphony and chorus was a prominent leaiure toe stage being filled up with the vocalists aud musician and last but by no means least was Smash Up by Croxalls band a compound of popular po-pular and patriotic airs which pleased immensely as P concluding piece The concerts throughout have been I success and are a credit to the members of the combination in general gene-ral and to Prof Geo Careless in particular parti-cular whose efforts have been untiring un-tiring and to whom the credit for the beautiful orchestral accompaniments accompani-ments arc due as they are his own composition Though we may have had entertainments equal to any of these before there has never been such a succession Words cannot add to the support and encouragement encourage-ment given the combination by tbe public and we can only say i was fully merited m |
