Show Bad Runaway About 3 oclock on Monday after teams noon one of Clutes transfer made a break to run away The driver was watering them at the tank near the old City Meat Market Mar-ket when the off horse caught his bridle in the spout and in jerking his head away pulled the bridle off The animals became frightened and both wheeled suddenly around and broke away Thedriver sprang towards them and caught the nigh horse by the bridle bit which turned them from their course and headed both on the sidewalk towards Edingtons mercantile establishment As they neared the corner of the building it really looked as though there was no alternative but for them to plunge through the window However How-ever the off horse having considerably consider-ably the advantage of the other pulled his mate driver who was still hanging on to the bit and aUto aU-to the business front of the store making a clean steep and demol iming everything in their way and fi mlly knocking down a couple of persons man and a woman one of the horses falling on the womans legs and holding her fast for several sev-eral minutes until with great difficulty diffi-culty she was extricated from her perilous condition by the aid of some of the excited crowd which by this time had gatheredW from all quarters The horses ran into a show case which was completely demolished broke in the west window and scattered broken glass and various articles all over the sidewalk The woman was rendered unconscious and the man also prostrated from the force of the collision After the man and womanAlexander Ges trino and Charlotte Nedeanwere released from their perilous situation situa-tion they were takon across the street to Dr M Edmunds dental office where their injuries were examined ex-amined by Dr Taggart and the former named gentleman Luckily their injuries consisted only in a number of external severe bruises which were attended to by Dr Ed munds The womans shoes were entirely spoiled being completely torn from her feet and some portions por-tions of her wearing apparel was also torn into shreds Ihe man had quite a bad bruise on the side of his head and some blight bruises on other portions of his body and was much more physically hurt than the woman To the credit of the driver Mr Richard Adams after the accident and notwithstanding that cne of his horses had fled went to The suffering suf-fering couple and procured medicine medi-cine a pair of shoes for the woman and also sent a hack to take them to their residence in the Seventeenth Ward He also went to Mr Eding ton and other damaged parties and offered to pay all damages and expenses ex-penses connected with the affair Shortly after the above named accident ac-cident a vehicle with a span of horses attached had its front wheel and a portion of the axletree wrenched off while crossing over the street car trAck directly in front of where the runaway accident occurred almost preceipitating the driver from his seat to the ground |
