Show FUNERAL SERVICES Over the Respected Citizens John Van Cott and William Bringhurst At the appointed hour on Tuesday Tues-day morning the hearse containing the remains of the lamented John Van Cotl left the late residence and proceeded to the Assembly Hall Arriving there the casket was disposed dis-posed so that the many friends of the deceased were allowed to take a farewell look at his features of which opportunity a large number availed themselves The services began be-gan a few minutes past 11 oclockthe choir singing and President Wilford Woodruff praying President Jos F Smith delivered a most interesting interest-ing discourse full of sympathy and prophetic hope for the future He was followed by President Woodruff Wood-ruff who adverted on the many excellent ex-cellent qualities of the deceased President John Taylor then made the last address in which besides offering consolation to the mourners besides speaking in the highest terms of the worth of the deceased he pointed to the life of the dead as worthy of the emulation of all The choir sang and the remains followed by a large procession were taken to their final home At 10 am on Thursday the remains re-mains the late Bishop Bringhurst of Springville were taken to the Springhurst Tabernacle and in front of the stand The building was tastefully draped as also was the chair which the deceased had long occupied It was raised above the casket and had a white band stretched across the draped arms and seat as if forbidding occupancy Counselor Kelsey presided President Presi-dent A 0 Smoot and counselors of Utah stake were present on the stand and the huge building was crowded with sympathetic friends and neighbors The Springville choir under the direction of Elder George Hamsonsang an appropriate I hymn President AO Smoot spoke first and was followed by Counselors Coun-selors D Johns and H H duff i all the speakers dwelling on i his integrity uprightness and usefulness Councellor Kelsey I attempted to speak but was so greatly moved that after a few words expressive of the great worth of his dead friend he was forced to desist A few remarks were also made by Bishop Garrington of American Fork Benediction was pronounced by Elder P H Boyer and the remains were again placed in the earriage by the pall bearers and sadly eonveyedaccompanied by loved mourners to the grave |
