Show Vanderbilt Sick New York 20It is reported that W H Vanderbilt is very ill He has ceased to attend to business his affairs being conduced by his son Cornelius Vanderbilt Three weeks ago when General Devocaux and Mr Banks called upon him in relation to the sale of the Nickel Plate road it was whispered among his inimate friends that he suddenly sud-denly fol to the floor in an attack ot paralysis He rallied but the effect of the shock is still seen in the contraction of one side of his mouth which is said to be still noticeable It is also assorted that since the shake he has given way to fits of melancholy lr Elliot F Shephard Mr Vander bills eoninUw said today that Vanderbilt Van-derbilt was not well but his indisposition did not occasion alarm that it was merely the result of unfavorable weather He hoped his relative would be about again in a day or two It was said at Vanderbills house this evening that he had not left town and he was very well indeed Information from authenticic sources convey the impression that Vasderbilts condition is much worse than it firat supposed sup-posed It appears arrangements were being made to convey Wm H Vanderbilt Vander-bilt and bis family to Lake Wood N J A professional gentleman who has known Yanderbilt since his youth and who also knew his father as well was seen and observed I am not surprised at this In fact I partly expected that something of the kind would happen Vanderbilt i very far from being the man his father was He is given to strange fancies and is very nervous as if fearing that somethiag serious is going to happen He shows his peculiarity by constantly changing his medical advisers He never seems to have faith in them for any length of time This may be a peculiarity of his disease At all events I should not be surprised at anything that might occur There is no truth in the story published here that Vanderbilt is dangerously ill He Is attending to business to day |
