Show CITY H COUNCIL 11 1 I Proceedings at the City Council Tuesday evening January 23rd 1883 Mayor Jennings presiding t A petition was presented from I Jasper Conrad and thirtysix others i residents along the line and in the vicinity of the temporary track of he Denver and Rio Grande Railway Company running from the depot of said company to the depot of the Utah and Nevada Railway representing repre-senting that said temporary track was a detriment to the property along its line depreciating the value thereof i that it was a hindrance hind-rance to travel an eyesore and a eneral discomfort to the people That the Council originally granted the use of the streets for said track for a period of six months j that said period had long since elapsed that the object for which the track was laid had been accomplished and that the company had no further apparent use for it than to transport trans-port one car load of coal per day to the Salt LaKe City Gas Works I which could be easily done on the permanent track of said Denver and Rio Grande Railway Company on Sixth West street which intersects inter-sects the Utah and Nevada Railway en South Temple street The petitioners peti-tioners therefore earnestly hoped that the Council would cause the i track aforefaid to be removed without with-out delay Referred to the committee com-mittee on streets and alleys The following petition from the Salt Lake Power Light and Heating Heat-ing Company signed by its president v presi-dent G S Frb was presented In pursuance of a former communication communica-tion on lighting a portion of the city by electricity we herewith send you a diagram dia-gram shoving the epacei now lighted by gas in red aleo the space proposed to be lighted by electricity as shown by a black cross You will notice that the crosses indicate the electrical lamps are I to be placed in the midde of the streets as by this method the entire light ig alilzd 83 far aa we have been able to learn we have shown the entire area lighted by gas in the red mat ha above referred to It is therefore easily seen thai the space to be lighted by electricity is much larger nearly three timesthan that lighted by ts We are now prepared to ofijr ta the city thirty 30 electrical lamps to bo placed as shown on the accompanying diagram at 25 per lamp per month each lamp to run all night or accoiding to what you require the Gas Company too to-o making a total am unt of f9000 per annum for lighting the pace BS shown on the diagram It your honorable body should so deire we will either light the space indicated on the diagram by the crush X or any other similar space providing we have the same lighting ia a bdy as you can readily eee that to scatttr the lamps at any p int thro ighout the ely the cost to us would be much more m running the wires erecting the LJvles and mre or less resistance to the electrical current cur-rent according to tho distance from our jrorks The spce herein proposed to be ighted ty us will requiro over ten mile of wire The lamps to bo put in will be double carbon lamps fitted to run all night This proposition includes the putting i1 of poles wires thhty 30 lamps us above described furnishing uf carbons and keeping the whole in good condition by the company The diagram referred to accompanied accom-panied the petition Referred to the committee on improvements The committee on irrigation to whom was referred the report of the watermaster for the quarter ending November 30th 1882 reported that they had examined the same compared com-pared it with the accompanying vouchers and found it to be correct The committee therefore recommended recom-mended that it le approved and the i amount expended in excess of appropriations ap-propriations to the vvatermasters contingent fund viz S32824 be appropriated Adopted 1he committee on cemetery to whom was referred the annual report re-port of the city sexton for 1882 reported re-ported that they had examined the same and found the expenditures for repairs and improvements to be in accordance with previous recommendations recom-mendations The committee recommended re-commended th it the suggestion of the sexton in reference to enclosing enclos-ing more grounds for cemetery purposes pur-poses be adopted and the plot of ground on the north of the cemetery ceme-tery enclosure extending east and west the entire width of said enclosure enclos-ure and north to near the south line of the artesian well bt devoted to bural uurposes and that the east half of said plot of ground be cleared and graded tlu coming spring and some suitable person be appointed to carry out the recomen dations herein made and a sum sufficient suf-ficient to defray the expense involved in-volved be appropriated
