Show or Aaottifcf Ipearfnl Railroad Ac cideiit Kryser W VM 230ne of the most terrible and fatal accidents ac-cidents that ever occurred in this part of the country happened on the Georges Creek and Cumberland Railroad today Three coal trains consisting of three locomotives fiftytwo hoppers and seventeen gondolas all loaded started from Cumberland coupled together one engine in front another m the middle mid-dle and one in the rear In going down one of the steep grades the I engines lost control and the train I started down the steep incline at a fearful rate of speed The train kept the track until they got on a trestle work having a reverse curve The front engine flew the track j dragging all the men sixtynine cars and locomotives after itall going rolling and tumbling down a steep hill between eighty and 1CO feet high Seven dead bodies were found amid the wreck and more are missing Each train consisted of a conductor two brakemen fireman and engineer In all fifteen not one of whom can be found alive The names are not obtainable Harry Baldwin fireman and Wm Lyons and James McGetti gen brakemen were killed and Martin Welsh engineer died soon after from his injuries Daniel Bradley fireman James Dolen engineer en-gineer and George JFocken and Solomon Solo-mon Gross brakemen injured All the killed and injured reside in Cumberland The body of Baldwin is not yet recovered from the wreck which is of such an extent as to block the road for several rods The loss to the railroad cannot nowbe estimated |
