Show i MURDER II I I John Oaks Wilfully Hurdbis David Richards 4 1At J Special to theEKELD SILVER CITY Sept 13th 1881 A coldblooded murder has been perpetrated here On Sunday evening even-ing at about 9 oclock a man named John Oaks shot at and killed another an-other man named David Richards Richards was too drunk to defend himself and those who heard the shooting state that when the fatal firing commenced Richards was heard to beg piteously that his assailant would spare his life Oaks however fired five shots at his pleading victim and of this number four took effect One struck him in the right side of the jaw and came out under the ear another entered the right arm and came out near the elbow still another hit the poor man in the base of the neck and passing downward struck the spinal column The fourth ball was found in his breast It was under his clothing which it was discovered were much torn at this point and from this circumstance circum-stance it is believed the clothing stopped the force of the ball The course of all the wounds being downward 1 down-ward the supposition is that Richards I Rich-ards was on his knees The verdict of the coroners jury charged Oaks with wilful murder I |
