Show I CITY COUNCIL Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday January 25th 1881 Alderman Alder-man Raleigh presiding A petition was submitted signed by Charles W Penroae and fifty others residents and taxpayers of the city calling attention to the deplorable condition of the street commencing at tbe southeast corner of Eighth Ward Square and running east to Third East street the same being almost impassable for teams Tbe petition asked that tbe street mentioned men-tioned be properly graded and put in good repair Referred to the committee com-mittee on streets und alleys J H VanNatta petitioned for the privilege of purchasing a certain piece of ground containing 11 25100 acres in section twentyfour townsQip one north range one west and represented repre-sented that be had held and worked said ground as A rock quarry for fifteen years for which purpose he now desired to acquire a title thereto Referred to the committee On publio ground Tbe committee on fire department to whom was referred the annual report oi the chief engineer of the fire department for tbe year 1880 I reported upon tbe several needs of the department as represented by the chief engineer as follows That 200 feet of 3 inch hose 500 feet of 2J inch hose fifty firemens shirts fifty firemens belts and rubber coats for pipemen be furnished to the department depart-ment and that 906 be appropriated to pay for the same also that 500 I I be appropriated to the members of the fire brigade to be distributed under tbe direction oi the chief engineer en-gineer The committee also recommended recom-mended that two fire tanks be located on the Twentieth Ward north bench I and that the two hydrants now on Commercial street which are practically prac-tically useless be replaced by two oi the kind now in use in other parts of the city Adopted The committee on license to whom was referred the petition of John I Sharp and over 7000 others asking that the liquor traffic of the city be curtailed and restrained to the I extent authorizedby the city charter reported that they had the subject under consideration but owing to its importance and the necessity of prudential pru-dential measures they had not yet I concluded their labors and therefore asked for further time in which to report re-port Report accepted and further time granted On motion the action of the city sexton in furnishing the committee on relief of Alta sufferers ground for grates in the City Cemetery free of coat for the burial of five of the victims vic-tims of the late snowslide disaster in I Little Cottonwood Caiisn was endorsed en-dorsed and approved Tbe committee on municipal laws reported a bill for An ordinance establishing Washington Market and for other purposes and asked that it be put upon its passage The bill passed its first reading and pending the second reading thereof was ordered or-dered to be printed in epen lines Adjourned for one week |
