trains arrived or departed since last night nightWashington 13 The flood which came rushing down the Potomac on Saturday submerged the lower portion of the city for nearly twentyfour hours but hrs subsided An immense ice gorge extending from above the city to a point several miles below and reaching nearly to the Virginia shore threatens destruction destruc-tion to the wharves and steamboats on them when it begins to give way The damage to vessels wharves and property along the river is estimated at between 50000 and 100000 Most of the wharf owner expect greater danger when the massed ice moves The damage to property prop-erty and merchandise in the inundated portion ot the city will probably reach 100000 and in Georgetown to wharves and store houses 75000 A section of the long bridge about 300 feet swept away last night was carried about 100 yards down the river to the flats where it lies badly wrecked wedged in with broken ice Telegraphic communication communica-tion with the south is badly interrupted and all the cables at Long Bridge have been carried away Tonight only two of the twenty wires are working between Washington and Alexandria Railroad travel to the south on
