Show NEWS NUG6E1S I 1 Outrage Galveston 5 Captain Dujay of the American schooner Rebecca ot Galveston in a communication to the News relates the story of outrage out-rage and imprisonment the hand of the Mexican authorities at Port Tampico on the 17th of February last The schooner was in distress and leaking and put in at Tampico carrying the regular clearance papers pa-pers from Brashear La for Tarn pico but had thirty packages of merchandise for delvery at Brazo Texa t which port she was compelled com-pelled to pass en account of the rough weather The collector at Tampic3 forcibly took the thirty packages consigned to Brazos and ordered the immediate diecharge of the entire cargo Captain Dujay wa3 arrested on the charge of an attempt to smuggle confined under guard but released re-leased the next day on the solicitation solicita-tion of the American Minister and the Con3ul judge before whom Du ¬ jay was tried insultingy refused to allow the American Consul to be present During the trial after the litigation over forty days the judge decided that the goods must pay treble duty Dojy protested that he had no money On the 14th of April the Mexican authorities boarded the American schooner and pulled down the American flags and embargoed the vessel Dujay appealed ap-pealed to the American Consul who placed the crew in n hotel DuJay after a short stay returned to the United States leaning the crew with the Consul and the vessel in the hands of the Mexicans He thinks but for ihe efforts of Minister Minis-ter Morgan and Consul Cassard he would still be contined in a Mexican prison |
