Show The Swaim Inquiry Washington 6The Swaim c ourt of inquiry met this morning General Swaim was present with his counsel Representative Calkins and Judge Jonnston and Bateman who made the charges against General I Gen-eral Swarm was accompanied by i his attorney Jeff Chandler A genera statement of the grounds of i the accusation made by Bateman to I the Secretary of War was made by Chandler and Calkins followed with a counter statement for the defense de-fense Neither side touched anything any-thing but the specific charges made in Batemans letter to the Secretary of War but the judge advocate of the court in calling the attention of the court suggested that the scope of the inquiry in-quiry extended to further charges i alluded to in the closing part of I Batemans letter but not specifically speci-fically made The court decided that Bateman would be called upon to explain these charges also before the inquiry was concluded Bate man was theu called and testified to the character and extent of the business busi-ness transacted between his firm and General Swaim Before the conclusion of his testimony the court adjourned until tomorrow |
