| Show The Utah and Nevada Affair It seems thera is likely to arise a little trouble over the control of the Utah and Nevada railway At the annual meeting for the election of directors last Saturday Mr C W Scofield presented a proxy authorizing him to vote certain shares owned in the east and which would give him control of the election elec-tion Mr Riter and his party of ins questioned the regularity or genuineness of Mr Scofields proxy the first named gentleman holding a proxy as to the indentical shares that the latter proposed to vote and had received no notification that his authority had been revoked or that the intention w = s to nullify it Having refused to recognize Mr Scofields pretended authority the election proceeded Mr Biter voting the shares in dispute when the following board was chosen Sidney Dillon Fred L Ames Ezra H Baker Elisha Atkins W W Riter A F Doremus W B Doddridger Williams Le Grand Young James Sharp and Bolivar Roberts It has been understood all along that the Union Pacific controlled and practically prac-tically owed the Utah and Nevada U P men holding a large majority of the shares The above board will be recognized as a Union Pacific directory pure and simple Mr Scofield also voted the shares that Mr Riter had voted but in the case of the former the votes were not counted by the teller who by the way was in the Riter interest Mr Scofields directory is a follows C W Scofield Joab Lawrence W S McCornick F H Auerbach Samuel Kahn George M Scott J G Sutherland Frank Foote J Barnett George Goss and W S Godbe On Monday the I Scofield directors chose the following officers President C W Scofield vicepresident Jacob Lawrence treasurer W S McCornick secretary secre-tary J Barnett It is alleged that Mr Scofield is I moving in the interest of the Denver Den-ver and Rio Grande but this is denied de-nied by some of the people connected con-nected with the company mentioned men-tioned Whatever is Mr Scofields object and whether his certificate of proxy is regular or otherwise he has not yet secured control of the road Mr Riter still retaining possession pos-session The track connecting the U and N with the D and R G has been torn up which looks as if the management of this firstnamed did not intend to be caught in a trap or let anybody else get possession of the road except through regular and legitimate process of law Undoubtedly Un-doubtedly the matter will soon find L its way into court when the rights lof the disputants will have to be t adjusted The public is not interested inter-ested in the fight and only wants the road operated for its accomoda tion and continued westward to the Pacific |
