| Show SOME TIME ago it will be remembered remem-bered that the trustees of Columbia College after considering the matter mat-ter declined to admit women students stu-dents within the college walls They now announce that the institution will inaugurate preparatory tests for women similar to freshmen examinations ex-aminations for men will prescribe lines of study conduct other examinations exami-nations in writing as often as may seem necessary and will at the end of a four years course give appropriate appro-priate certificates However the students must find their own places for study and their own teachers as the college will give them no instruction in-struction Grave old Columbia has yielded much in condescending to recognize the fact that there are I females who care for or deserve higher education Having gone so far it is not beyond the possibilities that ere long women will be admitted ad-mitted to the college on an equal footing with men and given an opportunity to work out their own educational destiny |
