| Show Bridges SALT LAKE CITY May 221883 Editors Herald The suggestion of Hon D H Wells in the City Council a few days ago that the rock piled up at a bridge on Fifth East street south Liberty Park be used promptly for the repair or enlargement of the bridge as evidantly intended is good except that it is a little too soon or a little too late The time of high water is not a good time to build a bridge After high water is better There ought to be ubstantial guard rails at the sides of bridges where the streams or the chasms are deep and consequently dangerous danger-ous such bridges as one on the canal that crosses Jordan streetand one on the State road near the cityThere There ought to be a good wagon bridge over that stream that feeds Pugsleys mill on Second West street The bridging or flaming of streams where they cross roads is an excellent excel-lent thing anywhere especially in or near a city But the bridges or flumes should be kept in good repair for in this as in many other matters a stitch in time saves nine There are several flumes in the city that have holes in the tops of them as well as at the endstwo or three on uifth East street in which con dition they have bean more than I one week or two On the State Road the planking of a bridge just south of the city is beginning to break up Further south near the Bud weiser whatever that may mean there is a bridge the gravel on which has been working off I without hindrance or replacement for several weeks and now as a natural consequence the planking is beginning to give way Eternal vigilence is the price of good bridges flumes and roads generally 1 TRAVELER |
