Show I P IN REALM OF MUSIC I I I Salt Lake Choral Ch Society An tn attraction of importance In music circles will be the rendition of the tho Elijah by the Salt Lake Choral so society society clety in tb t Salt Lake theatre on the tho evening of Wednesday Jan 27 This will be the first performance of Men masterpiece in Salt Lake and also the first complete work at attempted attempted attempted tempted by b the Salt Lake Choral so society society society For these re fons there is much interest being manifested in the tim event and it is expected that a capacity house will greet the singers The member membership membership membership ship of the chorus now no numbers nearly nearl 00 voices and regular rehearsals have been held since the Eisteddfod when the society made its first public appear appearance appearance appearance ance The favorable impression made by b the chorus at that time has been commented upon freely freel in these col columns columns and It is fully expected that the tho rendition of the Elijah will bo be boup up to the standard set at that time An orchestra of fifty men has been working upon the music for several days The soloists have also allo been chosen and have ha e been given their parts The names will be announced to the Ule society at the next rehearsal which will be held Sunday evening at In Christensons dancing academy It has hasI been n decided to have hare separate parate S sets of soloists for each ach of the two parts of the oratorio with a special soloist to sing the tho part of the angel Mr 1 McClel McClellan lan l n the th conductor of the society Is 15 meeting me almost ith the th soloists and careful on is being given to every detail As An an educational feature In connection connection connection tion with this production a lecture on oratorio music is being prepared by b bEdward Edward P Kimball The Tho lecture will consist of the history and progress of oC oratorio music and the important pas passages passages passages sages in the Elijah will be Illustrated on the piano This lecture Is also to be given shen in Provo Ogden and Logan and excursions will iII be run from those th se points The seating of this large body of sing singers singers ers em on the theatre stage is no small task and it has haR been found necessary to extend the stage over the orchestra pit In doing this however space will willbe willbe wIllbe be provided on the stage for the or orchestra orchestra orchestra chestra placing the singers and or orchestra orchestra orchestra chestra on the same level It is II ex expected expected exported ported that this arrangement will 11 prove very satisfactory and will be the means of bringing the entire body bod of ot musi must musicians musicians clans into closer touch with the con conductor ductor The Elijah Is the first of a series ferles of concerts in which the Choral society w will wIl 11 appear w within the next few months The object of these concerts is to raise a fund to send the Choral society to Denver Dener next fall to compete In the Els Eis Eisteddfod to be herd there A large num number number number ber of prominent citizens are giving their hearty support to the society In Inthis Inthis inthis this movement and this fact together with the reputation already made by bythe b bythe the singers is counted upon to fill flU the house houe The performance of oC the Elijah has been limited to one night as it is 11 Impossible to arrange theatre dates for more than one performance The seat sale opens on Monday on a Jan IS 18 but ad advance advance advance vance tickets are being sold at the mu music music music sic stores and by b all members of the society The regular prices of the Salt Lake theatre w wiil ill prevail |
