Show FLOOD IN STREETS FROM BROKEN MAIN Inch Conduit Burst and Water Is Then Shut Oft Off For nearly three hours last night the entire southern and southeastern of the city was deprived o of water on account of a blowout In the big main maio which feeds that section ot of the city from the Par Parleys Parleys leys canyon and Big Cottonwood can canyon canyon yon reservoirs The blowout occurred at the corner of Fifth South and Sev Seventh Seventh East streets and was discovered at about 8 by one of the watch watchmen watchmen men of the Utah Light Railway corn com compan pan pany who found the water running Into the pits In the car baris of the plant just south of Fifth South Hurrying into the street the watch watchman watchman man discovered a stream of water rIs rIsIng rising Ing Several feet Into the air at the corner of FIfth South and Seventh East streets and flooding the street P A Forbes one of the distributors of the street department was Imme Immediately Immediately notified Foreman Al Pitts was also notified and both of these men were on the scene of trouble with a gang ot men within an hour The valves of the water system were then shut ot off at Fifth East Sixth East Eighth East and Tenth East and the water turned on again through the conduits of the old system Frank Gowan foreman for P J T Mo Moran Moran ran the contractor who laid the big pipe arrived on the scene at a little after 10 and proceeded to start excavating for the blowout It was given out that the new pipe could be placed and the damage repaired within twenty four hours On account of the dangerous condition of Fifth South street near the corner of Seventh East however the tracks were not used to bring street cars into the barns |
