Show Hzz2 Lin Urosllino Dts-CiiacGtsflout By DAVE WIGHAM BEAR RIVER - As expected ex-pected the Box Elder wrestling team walked away from the field to win the Region Four wrestling tournament tour-nament while the two county schools saw several of their wrestlers qualify for the state toumamenL DAVIS HIGH placed second to the Bees while Woods Cross finished third. Following these three were Bear River, Ben Lomond, Ogden, Logan and South. Both schools did well as a team with the Darts qualifying qualify-ing all twelve men for the state event while the Wildcats saw eleven of their wrestlers get invites to the state meet. WOODS CROSS saw two of their wrestlers claim individual in-dividual championships with one of them winning the Out-- Out-- standing Wrestler award. Jason Whitney, a junior, won the title in the tough 185 pound class and in the process was selected as the outstanding wrestler award. Jeff Lewis, another Wildcat, took top honors in the 155 pound class to top off a great year for him. Two other Wildcats were second place winners with seniors Pat Shuldberg taking runnerup honors in the 119 pound class, behind a defending defend-ing state champion. Andy Boehme placed second in the heavyweight class, a class that the coaches said anv one of four wrestlers could win. SEVERAL OTHER wrestlers lost only one match in the two day event and came back through the lower bracket to take third place. Jacobs did it in the 98 pound class for the Cats while Curtis Knight did the same in the 132 class. Other state qualifiers for the Wildcats were Richard Hatch, a fourth place finish in the 112 class, Todd Jones, a fourth in the 145 class. Matt Owens, a fifth in 126, Jeff Olson, Ol-son, a fifth at 138, and Mark Tate, a fifth in the 167 class. DAVIS, WHICH qualified its entire team for the state tournament was led by a first place finish from heavyweight Jon Warden. Kevin Criddle was second at 185, Mike Taylor was second at 105, Max Cloward, a second at 112. These three second place winners were only beaten beat-en by potential state champions cham-pions and in two cases by defending state champions. Ed Knowlton was second at 138 and Gary Percival second at 167. Third place winners were Mark Moulton (119), and Drew Webster (145) and Rodger Parsell at 126. Troy Meacham was fourth at 101 along with Andy Thompson at 132 and Gregg Shuller at 155. BOTH THE Wildcats and Darts are excited about their chances at the state meet. Several wrestlers have excellent ex-cellent shots at individual titles. |
