The Mueller Park Bronco All-Stars on Saturday, August 6, completed their successful post-season tournament play by competing in the Boys' Baseball Regional Tournament Tour-nament in Tooele. Mueller Park was the district representative to the regional tournament, an honor they earned as a result of winning both area and district tournaments. tour-naments. THE AREA tournament was comprised of six teams from the Bountiful and Cen-terville Cen-terville area. The Mueller Park team defeated teams from Bountiful Central, West Bountiful and Centerville leagues before splitting a double-header with the Bountiful Boun-tiful league representative to win the championship. From the area tournament the team competed in the district tournament held in North Salt Lake where they ' defeated the representatives from South Davis and Val Verda leagues before winning both ends of a double-header against the Bountiful league team to c'inch the district championship. ON THE way to winning the district championship, the Mueller Park team compiled a record of eight victories against two losses, giving up only 46 hits while collecting 105 of their own. The pitching staff, Blake Izatt, Eric Johnson and Steve Luddington, earned 98 strikeouts in the ten games. The team averaged better than one hit for every three trips to the plate, or a .351 collective batting average. The team also collected 15 homeruns while giving up only five to their opponents. IN THE regional tournament, tour-nament, the Mueller Park team lost a hotly contested championship game to Springville to finish second in the region and state. We would like to congratulate congra-tulate the boys and their coaches for a fine season and extend a thank you to all the boys' baseball officials and parents for their help in making this a memorable year. |
