Utah is by far the most beautitui spot in the world insists Helmut Christer, German tour guide director for Rotel Tours of Los Angeles. He wanted to be sure local residents are aware that southern Utah is indeed a favorite spot for their clientele. last saw his mother. Special buses offer foreign visitors economy tours of area. Giant Sleeper Coaches Make Unique Tourist Opportunity Several 24-passenger coaches have been purchased by the Los Angeles based firm. A big advantage of the giant coach, say the tour operators, is the economy factor. Since passengers sleep on board the vehicle, tour planners are able to offer a reduced-fee tour package to their people. Christer noted that while some might think the tourist business in Utah would suffer an overall loss of revenue due to the loss of motel room rentals, quite the opposite is true. He was quick to point out that with the sleeper coaches, many thousands are able to visit the area who would not ordinarily be able to come and they spend their money in other ways. Originating in Los Angeles, the tours make their first major stop at Grand Canyon, then moving to the Bryce Canyon area, they make another major stop before traveling north to Canada, back to the west coast and south to Los Angeles. Because of the sleep arrangements and the vehicle's reliability, the sleeper coaches are the only buses permitted by the Interstate Commerce Commission to travel vast distances over desert terrain, Christer said. |
