Show Born On St. Patrick's Day - Family Plans Gathering To Celebrate 9 8th Birthday Of 'Grandma Brown" flesh shivered with goose held in my bumps last week as hands a picture of a young man. shivered because the face of the young man peering straight back at me, though dressed in the clothes and standing in a setting of about the 1870's of our Pioneer days, yet was also the exact likeness of the face of my husband. My ward Martin, photographer, Main Street, Great Salt Lake City, U.T. And that's exactly how Utah was abreviated, I too. The physical features must run true and strong in the Bradford family because the face of Rowsell Bradford way back then, is the exact face of his great grandson, who became my husband. It's so uncanny that I often pick up the picture, looking closely at that long ago face, almost as though, if I keep studying it long and hard enough, some great, mysterious secret will be revealed to me. Oh, how I wish Gram were still alive so I could show her this picture and the two of us could talk and marvel over it all. She is the only one who would be as intrigued as i am over it, and would marvel over how someone so long ago could look like her son. The young man, in those rough pioneer clothes, was a Bradford. Rowsell Bradford, to be exact, although the family pronounced it as though spelled Rawsell. I'm not begood on my genealogy, but lieve he was my husband's greatgrandfather. Actually, there is one other face in the Bradford family that have seen repeated like this. (I suppose all families have them.) But this I I other face have seen three times. saw it first in my brother-in-laand then in the features of his son. quite naturally thought nothing of such a duplication of features in father and son, but then . . right out of the blue my son WR was born with the same exact face. It's made me ponder many times over the odd ways the genes can move around in a family. The picture came my way through the good graces of Mary Howard of Magna. e That sweet gal found the picture amidst her family's memorabilia, and, seeing it had been signed as a Bradford, called me (thank heaven's) to see if the name meant anything to me. I old-tim- . ... Well, it most certainly did mean something to me. It is a family have heard Gram name that speak dozens of times. A good pioneer family name. Those early Bradford men came to this valley as LDS pioneers, hauling with their group, the cannon which now rests harmlessly on the Salt Lake LDS Temple grounds. If there were never any other excuse for having pictures taken, this I would be suf- There is something almost mystical about seeing the same face that you've known and loved looking back at you from an antique picture. Yes, the genes of the Bradford family must run strong and true. Thank you, Mary Howard, for giving me, not only the picture, but this strange insight into the family wed into and made mine. New Celebrating her 98th birthday on Patricks Day is Dora Brown or Grandma Brown as she is affectionately called by her family and close friends. The family plans to gather with children grandchildren and greatgrandchildren from near and far, to wish her a happy birthday. She was born Dora Ballard in South Cottonwood and went to school at the old 26th District school which is now known as Woodstock. We walked to and from school every day of our lives, she recalls, and it didnt matter what the weather was. The roads were either muddy, heaped with snow drifts or had dust ankle deep. The reason people my age have such good legs today, she laughs, is because we walked everywhere we went when we were young. Dora and Edwin Parley Brown were married in 1902. They homesteaded and dry farmed in Boxelder county for many summers, but always came back to Murray so their nine children could go to school during the winter months. Eight of their children are still living. Mr. Brown died in 1943 and several years later she married Mr. He died 13 years ago.
