Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat is an amazing show, and students at Granger high did an amazingly good job with it. This is another of Andrew Lloyd Weber s musical extravaganzas and, like CATS, includes every type of music, from opera to rock and roll. Lyrics by Tim Rice convey the Bible story in modern jargon without being the least bit offensive. And, the cast has to sing and dance throughout, with no talking and no breaks in the action. Grangers cast, under the direction of Brenda Park, with Norm Keefer as choreographer, met the challenge. From the opening number to the closing there was no letdown; the tempo and mood were both up, the cast seemed to be enjoying it as much as the audience, and the big chorus, on stage almost throughout the show, made the most of the opportunity. Joseph (Shawn Farnworth) and his brothers, Veigh Andrews, Greg Bennion, Darron Coray, Robert Hole, Ron Kaller, Clint Lingwall, Troy Muir, Sean OLeary, Todd Tanner, Ted Thompson and Ken Torger-soall handled their parts well. Choreography was outstanding in scenes such as One More Angel In Those Canaan Days, Heaven, with Reuben and the brothers, and the Benjamin Calypso. The boys didnt miss a beat. Use of shadows, the weaving motions of the group and a particularly attractive camel added a nice touch. g This was a very show, different from the usual high school musical in that all dialogue was sung.
