THE COACHES also felt that it was appropriate to name certain players as honorable mention for their efforts this past season. Those chosen for this honor are listed in alphabetical school order. Bountiful: Ken Hosking, Bret Smith, Brian Slagowski, Mike Tolman, Billy Speaks and Larry Hale. BEN LOMOND: Bryan Gordan, Kevin Miller, Bart Hubbard, Dave Parsons, Dave Snell and Scott Eisenhour. Viewmont: Court Wilkins, Kirk Nielson, Kirt Green, Ken Lord and John Dechart. ALL OF these players deserve the recognition and congratulations for their ef- forts this past season in bringing to this region some of the most exciting football around, dw Much has been said in past weeks about how much the local athletes have gone on to college and helped their various schools football programs. Well its about time that the basketball talent from the county got their share of the ink. THREE FORMER Davis County ballplayers have found their way up north and are currently listed on the Utah State varsity basketball team. They are Gary Rawlee and Malmrose Perkins, both Bountiful High graduates and Dean Hunger from Davis High. Malmrose is the oldest of the group being a senior this year. He has earned three varsity letters in basketball for the Aggies. Gary is listed as a 62 guard. NEXT IN the line of seniority comes Rawlee who will be a sophomore this year. He is listed as a 6 guard. Although the youngest of the group Hunger is the biggest. Dean is a 68 freshman forward this year for the Aggies. Malmrose has had a somewhat complexing career with Utah State. As a fresh- man he saw considerable varsity action and the coaches labeled him as one of the best passing guards that the in school had ever had. Then his sophomore year Gary got off to a slow start and lost some of his confidence in his abilities and during the year logged a lot of time on the bench. LAST YEAR however Gary regained that confidence and began playing the type of ball that he is capable of doing. He soon became a starting guard again last year and he figures high on the coaches plans for success this year. Last year, his first with the university, the coaches really didnt know what to do with Perkins. He practiced with Bftafie the varsity team and played with the junior varsity squad. This caused some problems with the team; Rawlee just wasnt used to playing with the juniors all week and it was hard to play just once a week with them. THIS YEAR the coaches are positive they want Perkins with the varsity. are especially They impressed with his speed and quickness. Dean Hungers record speaks for itself. As a junior he was very instrumental in helping Davis win the 3A basketball championship. As a senior he lead his club to the championships again, but this time they finished second. MANY COLLEGE coaches and recruiters listed Dean as the best big man to graduate in the state this past year. The coaches at Utah State are hoping that Dean can make the adjustment from high school basketball to college ball in a hurry. With all the mention about the local lads playing football and now with the locals playing basketball its easy to see where the college recruiters can look for their future players, dw Second For Freshmen At Davis Davis High Freshman Football team captured the second place title in the Davis County Ninth Grade Football League for the 1976 football season.
