Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Cordon, Ogden; Mrs. Deverell (Susie) Petersen, Brighrm City. Clifford Ulvsses Wood, 82, of 388 N. Fort Lane, Layton, died Monday, Dec. 19, 1977 in a Salt Lake nursing home. He was born June 28, 1895 in Willard, a son of Brigham and Mary Amelia Pettingill Wood. ON JUNE 29, married Gertrude 1918, he Willey in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mrs. Wood died Sept. 3, 1964. He was reared in Willard and moved to Rigby, Idaho. He had resided in Layton the past 55 years. Mr. Wood graduated from Rigby High School and attended the University of Utah. HE WAS a member of the Layton Ninth LDS Ward, served as a counselor in the ward bishopric, a high priest group leader, a home teacher and a member of the stake home teaching committee. He was the owner and operator of Cliff Wood Service in Clear- - FUNERAL services were held Thursday, Dec. 22, 1977 in the Layton Ninth Ward Chapel with Bishop Lynn W. Wood, his son, officiating. Family prayer at the mortuary was given by Calvin B. Wood; prelude and postlude music was played by Donald Wood; opening prayer was given by Floyd Wood; Dennis Wright sang In The Garden. BISHOP Lynn W. Wood gave remarks; speakers were President Gayle Stevenson President and Floyd Stenquist; an organ medley of Mr. Woods favorite songs was played by Donald Wood; closing prayer was spoken by Bishop Guy G. Brent Wood dedicated the grave, dmg Kaysville-Layto- Sunset Revenues Exceed Expenses Revenues exceed expenditures by two percent after the first four months of the 1977-7- 8 fiscal year, according to a report by City Councilman Kenneth Rock of Sunset. IN A report to the city council, Mr. Rock showed that every department in the city has spent less than 33 percent of its annual budget after the first four months and this reflects a very favorable picture financially for the city. w He noted that the city budwhich began get for 1977-7- last July 1 and continues until next June 30, is $697,500, but as of Oct. 13 the city had spent $177,628 $190,561 in while collecting revenues. THIS MEANS that financially the city is right on target, said Councilman Rock. If we can keep up this trend, the city will end the fiscal year next June in the black. grb MRS. Smedley received her education in Logan and moved to Syracuse after her Funeral Rites Held Harold C. Layton, 82, of 625 W. Gentile, Layton died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1977 at his home of cancer. MR. LAYTON was born Aug. 19, 1895 in Layton, a son of John H. and Hannah Maria Phillips Layton. He was married to Birdie Adams on July 30, 1912. They were later divorced. On Oct. 10, 1935, he married Melba Burton in Devils Slide, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. MR. LAYTON was an active member of the Layton Fourth LDS Ward. He served as a counselor in two bishoprics. He was a former stake missionary. He was a lifelong resident of Layton. A RETIRED farmer, Mr. had also been Layton employed at the Clearfield Naval Supply Depot and Hill Air Force Base. He had worked as custodian for the Layton Fourth Ward. Mr. Layton was a former member of the Layton Town Board and was a member of the Layton Kiwanis Club. SURVIVING ARE his widow of Layton; four sons and two daughters, Hyrum J. Layton, Sparks, Nev.; Ben H. Layton, Rockland, Ida.; Robert H. Layton, San Diego, Calif.; Sharman L. Layton, Ogden; Mrs. Alvin (Lorraine) Jacobson, Bountiful; Mrs. Kermit (Kathleen) DeWall, 13 Wash.; Olympia, grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Leona) Adams, Mrs. Elburn (Josie) Dickson, both of Layton. FUNERAL SERVICES were held Friday, Dec. 23, 1977 in the Layton Fourth Ward Chapel. Bishop Terry Smedley officiated.Services were as follows: Family prayer, Robert marriage. A member of the Syracuse Second LDS Ward, she has been a teacher in the Relief Society and in the Primary. She had been active in the crusade for the rights of handicapped citizens in the area and served in the Democratic party organization of Davis County. She had been post and district president president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. SURVIVORS include her husband of Syracuse, one son and one daughter, Gerold Clair Smedley and Miss Irene Smedley, both of Syracuse. Also one brother and a sister, Glen Fergus, Roy; and Mrs. Wilford, (Ina Reine) George, Logan. Graveside funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch in Ogden. The family met friends for one hour prior to the services at Lindquist & Sons Mortuary in Ogden. AT THE mortuary the family prayer was given by Duane S. Burton, a nephew. The prayer at the cemetery was given by Michael Smedley, a nephew. Bishop Sheldon F. Child conducted the services and gave remarks. A vocal solo, Whispering Hope was rendered by Dick Egan; speaker, JoAnn Schell; a reading by Mrs. Helen Smedley and the grave was dedicated by Bishop Terry Smedley. vsb Ben Rotert Receives 30 Year Pin Layton resident Ben Rotert service has received a pin at Hill AFB ceremonies. r HE IS an inventory management specialist at the base.
