Show John M. Lang Dies Here Thursday; Services Held Sunday, March 4th Funeral services for John M. Lang, 84, were held in the St. George South ward chapel Sunday, Mar. 4. at 5 p. m. with Bp. Andrew McArthur conducting. Mr. Lang died at his home in St. George Thursday, March 1, at 3 p. m. of ailments incident to age. He had been in poor health for several months. , Music numbers for the services were a mixed quartette, "Oh, My Father" by Mrs. Wm. T. Morris son and James Mortensen; solos, Jr., Mrs. Pratt Miles, Joseph John-"That John-"That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" by Vernon Worthen and "Going Home" by Mrs. Miles; and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" by the quartette. Wm. T. Morris Jr. presided at the organ and accompanied accom-panied the numbers. Speakers were George F. Whitehead. White-head. Pres. Harold S. Snow and Bp. Andrew McArthur. All three told of the pioneer up bringing of Mr. Lang during the days of hardships, hard-ships, of his work as an expert woodman, and in assisting to reclaim re-claim the land and establish self-sustaining communities. They praised him for his integrity and genuineness as a husband, father, church and civic worker. They also paid tribute to his family who are following his example as law abiding citizens. Prayers 'were by Patriarch G. E. Miles and Levi C. White. The bady was taken to Beaver Monday Mon-day for graveside services and burial. John M. Lang was born Jan. 17, 1861 at Millcreek, near Salt Lake City. His parents were John and Mary Ann Michelson Lang. The family moved to St. George when (Continued on page four) J. M. He spent most of his later life at Beaver and Buckhorn, coming to St. George 12 years ago to devote his time to Temple work. He first married Ann M. Ipson of Beaver and later he married Minnie Stephens of Cedar City. After her death, he married Mrs. Lydia May Covington of Orderville. Order-ville. Surviving besides his widow are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Inez Limb and Mrs. Lilly Robinson Stevens of Cedar City; Parley Lang and Mrs. Emily Batson of St. George; William I. Lang of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Mary Johnson of Hurricane; Lt. Carlos S. Lang with the armed forces in the Pacific; Lt. Golden-Lang Golden-Lang with the U.S. Naval Air forces; Dee Lang who is serving on an L. D. S. mission in New England; 41 grandchildren and -10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by an adopted brother, James Lang of Milford, Utah; a half-brother, Herbert Lang of Duchesne; three half-sisters, Mrs. Minnie Zalaradie of American Fork. Mrs. Emma Dehlin of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Effie Thompson Thomp-son of Orcm. |
